The Saker — A multi-level analysis of the US cruise missile attack on Syria and its consequences

I don’t think that anybody seriously believes that Assad or anybody else in the Syrian government really ordered a chemical weapons attack on anybody. To believe that it would require you to find the following sequence logical: first, Assad pretty much wins the war against Daesh which is in full retreat. Then, the US declares that overthrowing Assad is not a priority anymore (up to here this is all factual and true). Then, Assad decides to use weapons he does not have. He decides to bomb a location with no military value, but with lots of kids and cameras. Then, when the Russians demand a full investigation, the Americans strike as fast as they can before this idea gets any support. And now the Americans are probing a possible Russian role in this so-called attack. Frankly, if you believe any of that, you should immediately stop reading and go back to watching TV. For the rest of us, there are three options:
Please read the whole thing.

Who is this Saker fella?

The little I found of him online says, if it's reliable, that he's an American military analyst. Why do I get the feeling that he's an American of Russian heritage?

Putin got Russia involved in another Afghanistan. If Washington is foolish enough to take over the reins in Syria, they should let them. Make it painful for the US military but do not go nuclear over it. To end the world over the fate of a ME dictator is an insane thing for either major power to do.

Why are Russians worried about their Muslim minorities? They have shown a willingness to crush any dissent, as evidenced by the wars in Chechnya. Just do as the US does and kill as many brown-skinned people as you have to. It is what these jihadists (young men with no hope) long for. In the longer term it won't matter what happens in Syria - Russia has made its bed and they will suffer more from terrorism than America will.

Syria may go the way of Libya but Iran? It is majority Shiite and has the backing of Russia and China. How much does Washington believe it can chew?

Behind the saber-rattling is a paper tiger. Action in Syria or Iran or North Korea may reveal the paper tiger for all to see. Observe the less than impressive performance of those Tomahawk missiles. Of course it will take a larger defeat to bring Washington to its senses, or to its knees.

Russians fell back during the Nazi invasion. You don't risk everything on defending the front line.

His parents left Russia at the time of the Revolution. He was born in Switzerland, later came to the US. He has been an analyst.

"US investigates possible Russia role in Syria chemical attack"

No one is saying that they are saying that Russia has been shown incompetent to handle the Syria situation...

Thanks Tom. Unfortunately (for the state of affairs in US government), Saker's case makes some sense. He really got me thinking of where this might all go -- defeat of U.S. in conventional war sometime in the 2020s. If this were to happen, U.S. as sole superpower and economic hegemon would collapse, perhaps along with integrity of government itself.
